The first weekend in December ROCKS!!!

November 30th, 2010 · Comments Off on The first weekend in December ROCKS!!! · Events

From Phycus Malloy: “I have high hair, high hopes and a desire to meet and have coffee with Gary Busey, Bill Murray, and the remaining members of The New Revolution. If you see me in person, I’m scary. You see me in pictures, I’m fat. You see me on stage, I’m naked. If you think I am the offspring of Drew Carey and Jack Black, you may be right, my dad and I look nothing alike.”

The Rebel Set – Poison Arrow (Silver Hornet)
“By mixing a heavy helping of dark, reverb-drenched surf with 1960’s garage punk, The Rebel Set certainly have found a unique, driven sound. Over all, the album’s tracks have a sort of darkness or heaviness flowing through them that Is hard to explain. I can only compare it to the feeling of listening to “California Dreaming” or The Sadies “Darker Circles” album, or to witnessing the first foggy, gloomy day of Fall. Yeah! Gloom! That’s the word I’m looking for! However, driven lyrics and drum beats keep the album upbeat and exciting.”

CD RELEASE PARTY, THIS FRIDAY NIGHT!

April 6th, 2010 · Comments Off on CD RELEASE PARTY, THIS FRIDAY NIGHT! · Events

(excerpts from ASU West Times article by Lauren Cusimano) “The Rebel Set is a talented surf rock band that is definitely something to be recognized as a local sound off the beaten path. Fans of old-fashioned surf punk enclosed with a fuzzy garage sound will definitely find a home at their shows, along with enjoying a personal spin of the anticipated album. Some of the band’s influences include: Link Wray, Rocket From The Crypt, The Tornados, Screaming Jay Hawkins, Holly Golightly, The Raveonettes, Buddy Holly, Duane Eddy, The Buzzcocks, The Ventures, The Original Surfaris, Lee Hazelwood, Nancy Sinatra, The Ronettes, Al Casey, Hubb Kapp and the Wheels, and Ryan and the Wipers. “

March 2nd, 2010 · 1 Comment · Events

Miss Derringer is a Los Angeles based rock band fronted by singer and underground artist Elizabeth McGrath and her husband/songwriter Morgan Slade. Rounding out the band’s lineup are Sylvain de Muizon (bass), Cody James (drums) and Ben Shields (lead guitar).

Miss Derringer is heavily influenced by American music of the late 50s and early 60s – particularly the vintage sounds of outlaw country, early 60s girl group pop.

The band’s lyrics deal with “honkytonk” subjects like prison, poverty, sobriety, God, death, marriage, murder, and alcohol.

Miss Derringer has opened up for several notable acts including Bad Religion, Blondie, John Doe,IAMX and Tiger Army.

Miss Derringer has released two albums with Sympathy for the Record Industry. The first King James, Crown Royal, and a Colt 45 was released in 2004.

Their second album Lullabies includes guest musicians such as drummer Clem Burke from Blondie and was co-produced by Derek O’Brien of Social Distortion and The Adolescents.

In 2007, Miss Derringer released the 2 song ep “Black Tears” electronically, on Stay Gold Records. Black Tears was produced by John Kastner of the Doughboys and All Systems Go! The song “Black Tears” and its remix version have been featured on the television show How I Met Your Mother

In 2008 the band signed a “strategic partnership” marketing deal with noted Advertising Agency Deutsch Inc. In late 2008 Miss Derringer was selected by Morgans Hotel Group as one several bands to participate in their “Recess is on” campaign, and was filmed performing a live version of their song “better Run Away From Me” at the Mondrian Hotel in Ls Angeles.

In February of 2009 Miss Derringer signed a record deal with Los Angeles label Triple X Records, who will release the band’s third album “Winter Hill” in July of 2009.
