NEW SHOW ALERT! 05/22/10: Lovemound/Graceful Degradation/Bitter Allegiance/Welfare Junkies

May 20th, 2010 · Events

Formed in 2006, Bitter Allegiance exists with the single goal of creating and playing music that inspires the masses....you know....the kind of inspiration that makes you want to drive fast, listen to your music way too loud, rob liquor stores, punch the jerkoff who thinks he's better than you, party with the neighbor's daughter, and wake up hung over missing your pants. We're loud, raw, in your face, and we'll play a gig standing in front of the gates of Hell if there's a fan there who wants to see us. Our original material is a hybrid of raw punk-rock energy with a dash of metal to get stuck in your teeth. Our covers are fast and dirty salutes to the bands whose music still inspires us today. Enough talk, on with the show!

May 9th, 2010 · Events

The Riveras create an ecletcic, tense, darker sound by blending the traditional guitar/bass/drums rock format of alternative, post-punk and jazz influences such as Karate, Smart Went Crazy, Drive Like Jehu, with the heartbreaking vocals and stirring violin of vocalist Jody Lew, who draws her influences from Bjork, and Radiohead, to The Clash, Blonde Redhead and Mecca Normal. The Riveras formed in the fall of 2009 in Southern Arizona, and is comprised of Douglas Berry and Chad Kaffer of Arizona jazz-rock band Thankful Birds on drums and guitars, respectively, and Chris Ilg on string bass with violinst and lead songstress Jody Lew.

NEW SHOW ALERT! 05/14/10: Stealing Your Kill/The Breakup Society/Robot Tank/Dfactor

May 8th, 2010 · Events

Reviews of Breakup Society's album James at 35. In Harp, Fred Mills hailed "James at 35" as having arrived "at a thematically serendipitous spot halfway between Elvis Costello's 'This Year's Model' and the dB's 'Stands For Decibels'," calling the album "a modern-day breakup/kiss-off classic in every sense of the term." Pop Matters wrote that "Masley knows what an audience weaned on Big Star, the Raspberries, Cheap Trick, and early Replacements is expecting and he delivers the goods. Every damn song is a three-minute gem, all hooky guitars, ooh aahs, and handclaps." Tom Semioli at Amplifier wrote that "Pittsburgh power pop pundits The Breakup Society clearly understand that rock n' roll works best when you wear a broken heart on your sleeve." Ira Robbins called the first song, "Robin Zander," "an iconic blast of cultural genius" and "a roaring catchy rush" while hailing the album's "superlative power-pop instincts." All Music Guide called it "a must for anyone who loves tough but hook-laden pop-rock with guts, smarts and plenty of humor." And some Oklahoma punk zine cited "Robin Zander" as the hookiest thing to come along since "Love Grows Where My Rosemary Goes."
